Weekly Nibble: May 29, 2020

As I left work today, I could feel the excited yet apprehensive buzz in the air. We begin curbside pickup and online summer reading (and roof construction) on Monday! We’ve all been trained and cross-trained and had practice runs and filmed tutorials and prepped for first week’s programs and every other thing in between. I can’t speak for every department, but I think Youth Services is feeling pretty good about it, which seemed such a long way off just a few short weeks ago.

I am most excited about the opportunity to interact with patrons again. We all had an opportunity to volunteer for times to be the outside runner who delivers holds to the cars, and I’m looking forward to having even limited, socially distant interactions with some of our regulars. It will be nice to feel that sense of purpose, like I’m doing something really useful for the community again.

On another note, I just registered for classes for my first semester of grad school! Exciting things are happening! I’m starting to get a little nervous about the potential workload while working full time, but I know that this is the right move for my career in the long run. I’m looking forward to learning new things about the library profession!
