Today was the first day of summer, and fittingly enough, it truly was one of the longest days I’ve experienced in a while! A number of things happened that I can’t go into, but let’s just say that the universe decided to throw us a few curveballs the day before our biggest event of the summer, LibCon!
There is one thing that happened today that I want to share because it was so ridiculous. I had gone to a school to do a Lego program for a summer camp group, and the director had asked me to come to the cafeteria door because there wouldn’t be anyone in the front office. As I made my way around the side of the building, I saw a family playing on the school playground, a dad, two girls, and their chunky little dog. I moseyed around the corner of the building holding two (very heavy) bins of Legos. All of a sudden, I hear the dog barking crazily. I turn to look and find that he has escaped the family and is barreling straight toward my ankles, teeth bared. I hadn’t even had a chance to knock on the door yet to let my summer camp know I was there, so there I was, carrying two giant bins of Legos, basically running in circles to try to keep this tiny dog from biting my ankles. One of the summer camp counselors heard the commotion and came over to the door to usher me in just as the little girl caught up to the dog she’d let loose. At the time, I was pretty frazzled, but the more I’ve looked back on it, the more I’ve just had to laugh at how absurd it must have looked.
